The t.A.T.u. song takes their endless, hopeless yearning to an obvious extreme, the result being disappointingly obvious. The CSS song, on the other hand, is insouciantly* charming. Their album is "on the bubble," as the sports reporters say, currently fighting with Santogold and Scooter and Taylor Swift for the last two spots on my P&J list.

*Is "insouciantly" a word?

I thought the t.A.T.u. song was kind of endearing in its total literal obviousness...for about twenty seconds. Gets old pretty quickly, though. "I Fly" on the other hand is one of my favorites from "Donkey."

And of course there's Miley, who actually made my singles list again this year without coming within a mile of my albums list.

Let me guess which Miley single you chose. It's the one whose chorus goes "Creepy little, sneaky little ______."

My two personal favorite entomology songs of the year were sung from the point of view of insects themselves: "Termite Song" by Woodbox Gang ("I've been hiding in your walls and plotting with your mouse/I'm hungry, and I'm gonna eat your house") and "I'm A Lightning Bug" by Final Solutions ("Lights go off, I light up/Fly all night til the sun comes up"). (But then, I am the fly in the ointment. I shake you down to say please as you accept the next dose of disease.)

Well, the CSS song is also from the point of view of the fly, though as a fly she's a neophyte.

I like the Woodbox Gang song. Was one of only three songs from Drunk As Dragons that I could find on MySpace. Has a haul-'em-up-boys rhythm like "16 Tons," but with a wide-eyed detachment like Pete Seeger's or the Holy Modal Rounders'. Don't know if President Thieu would approve, but the Gang are better than Hayes Carll is.
