I'm just quite surprised it's actually Lindsay that maintains her myspazz.

pay almost no attention to MySpace these days so I can't really tell you how it works, but my impression is that a MySpace Celebrity Blog is a different creature from one's actual MySpace page.

Regardless, Lindsay seems to have the self-analytic skills of a four-year-old, given that the first single on her second album was fundamentally a message to her dad, and whenever her dad says something about her to the media she responds by REFUTING HIM THROUGH THE MEDIA WHILE SIMULTANEOUSLY SAYING THAT ONE SHOULDN'T BE SAYING THINGS THROUGH THE MEDIA. There was a Cosmo interview from several years ago where she did the exact same thing. She's just awesomely self-deluded.

to be fair to her this delusion pervades the media itself -- esp.the us media where the idea that journalists can and should be "objectively above" the social battlefield manifests as the habit of transmitting all policy debates as "he said she said, you decide" and NOT (for example) do the legwork to nail the actual lies of the he or she (or both) at issue: bcz to do so would be to obtrude on objectivity and balance...

given that this is the media's dominant mode (it's actually less like this in the uk, where advocate-journalists are much more common), it doesn't surpise me much that there's often a disjunction between what an instinctive-rather-than-thoughtful musician says when they speak in words, and what their music says

alienation is a bit of a buzzword meaning too many not-entirely-related things, but one of its meanings is the sense that what i do when i speak or write is not "the media": "the media" is always a somewhat vague and bad "they" that i need take no responsibility for

again i think this attitude is very widespread; in fact almost built in to the material conditions most writers experience (meaning that they're isolated and -- given the nature of comercial competition for publication space -- have very little grasp of the impact of their role considered as a collective or a class)
