Based on the video, BUSTED. Based on the song...tough one. I like the Kelly Clarkson, but I also like naked triple-breasted women (and Michael Jackson for that matter). Jonas delivery's a bit goofier.

Was excising MJ an edit or did they just want a more current shout out? (Other major change: "your great-granddaughter is pretty fine" vs. "she's DOING fine.")

of course Busted's better.
here's why:
they write their own songs
they sing them IN TUNE
they sing them at concerts IN TUNE (most of the time at least.. way better than Jonas Brothers)
their overall sound blend is better
better harmonizing (mostly the problems that Jonas brothers have getting in tune, their harmonizing is lacking greatly)
they've got James Bourne, freakin genius who's beyond talented in music, writes it, plays 3 different instruments(w/ expertise)
their voices are stronger and more powerful than Jonas's
they don't have anyone going through puberty, thus not cracking voices.

and last of all, they didn't need to copy someone else's song to try and make a hit.

that's all I gotta say.

LoL I have my vote for the Jonas Brothers, now here is why

1.They also write all of their songs.
2.They have awesome voices and they blend in together to make an awesome sound.
3.Even when they sing live(they sing live, not lip) they can be running around and still have that awesome tune(I should know cause I went to one of their concerts).
4.In the Jonas Brothers they have Joe Jonas who can write inspiring songs from experiences and he can sing, write, play the keyboard, and he can play the tambourine.
5.They are a band that first signed onto Disney Channel, they were successful on their first album, getting #1 on MTV with Mandy and #1 with iTunes with again Mandy,now with their new album getting on TRL at #6 with S.O.S, barely getting notice and already on FM radio when they started out with Radio Disney AM.
5.They send out a good message going through puberty, they are showing that anybody no matter what age can become a good singer and song writer, they are saying that if you are dreaming to get in the music business do go out and try it, there are no age limit to full fill your dreams

Well, Anonymous II, actually the Jonas Brothers do not write all their own songs - not that I think this is a problem, but it is the reason why on this thread we've been comparing the Jonas Brothers' COVER version of "Year 3000" to Busted's ORIGINAL version.

Not sure exactly what your point five is, but the Jonas Brothers' actual achievement was to do well on Radio Disney back when they were still on Columbia Records*, despite the fact that Radio Disney gives preferential treatment to performers on the Disney-owned Hollywood Records. (Jonas Brothers are now on Hollywood.)

*the label that originally released the first Jonas Brothers album, the one containing "Mandy"

These two bands are both awesome, but in different ways. The Jonas Brothers blend, but maybe just a little too well. Busted might not blend well enough. They both write awesome songs, but the Jonas Brothers copy some songs from Busted. The Jonas brothers have written more songs, which counts for something. To get popular and on the hit lists, they did have to use several of Busted's songs, such as Year 3000. Overall, these two bands are HOTTTT!!!

The soundof the Busted band members are just so much better sounding than Jonas Brothers all the the instruments are well played and crisp and the vocals are amazing when i hear Jonas Brothers version of What I Go To School For i have to leave the room it is that terrible of an attempt at a brilliant song, Busted easily win out over Jonas

Busted is wayyy better!
1. they're not babies and have a little more edge in their songs.
2. they're grown up and have a larger fan span (notice how almost all the fans for JB are ages 7-15)
3. they write their own songs (James has written a lot of the songs for the Jonas Brothers)
4. they're original
5. they dont give a shit about what people think
6. JB are too boring... too "G" rated

I miss Busted a lot! but they've all done well for themselves. James Bourne is now in Son of Dork and a famous song writers (ask the Jonas Brothers) Charlie is in Fightstar. Matt has a pretty solid solo career.

i think if the jonas brothers were to split up, they wouldn't have much of a future. all they attract are young teen girls

The Jonas Brothers cant sing, in my opinion anyway.
The only reason people like them are because they're hot. [which i do agree with especially joe (:]
I guess they'd be an okay band if they were at all original.

Uh, actually, they don't write all the songs. In fact all the songs they ever actually had a hit with were written by BUSTED. So basically they just feel the need to COPY Busted's songs because they know they've been a hit in the UK. And they just want the credit for all Busted's work. Oh and never heard of the Disney Radio Station. Bet I'm not the only one.

the jonas brothers changed the song "Year 3000" to a load of american rubbish. And their version of 'What I Go To School For', also written by Busted, which they totally messed up, doesn't even make any sense. Okay wow, so much is wrong with what you just said, besides your lack of punctuation and grammar. Busted sang this song long before the Jonas Brothers. They didn't 'steel' their song, Jonas Brothers covered Busted's 'Year 3000' and 'What I Go To School For' they changed it a little. For your information Busted are no longer together, they are all doing their separate things now. But you wouldn't know that, because your so far up your American ass. Busted were amazing in their time. But yet so are the Jonas Brothers. I love them both, obviously in this situation Busted were better, they did write the song, but Jonas have amazing creative songs they wrote too. So please, think before you speak, and look up the facts.

What's so obvious about it, and what does their writing the song have to do with it? Carl Perkins wrote "Blue Suede Shoes," but Elvis Presley's version of it was a lot better than Carl's. That said, I do prefer the Busted version of "Year 3000," because I think they sing it better. But if the Jonas Brothers had sung it better - and hadn't changed "your great-great-great-granddaughter is pretty fine" to "your great-great-great-grandaughter is DOING fine" - then in this situation the Jonas Brothers would be better.

But I have a question: WHY is it such a big deal to you people who wrote the song? I'm genuinely curious, since I don't see how only singing songs that you write yourself makes your music better than that of someone who sings songs that other people write. What if the other people write better songs?

Well more than most times the writing on the song has a long to do with performance. Most writers have poured so much emotion into their song, that they couldnt bare anyone else to sing it. They have too... because its so close to them, and a great performance is done because they can put that into their vocals. Where as some artist sing their songs, and ONLY sing. (NOT like the Jonas Brothers.) I love the Jonas Brothers and i think they do sound really good in Year 3000. And other songs that they didnt write. And when i said 'ovbiously' i was saying it about the sound and the fact they wrote it, not purely on the writing aspect.
And sure, some amazing singers cant write a song for hell. Thats not a problem, and it doesnt make you sound better, it can, but not always.
All in all it really isnt about who wrote it, though i respect artists who write there song more than the one's who dont, but thats MY opinion. And ONLY mine, it doesnt make them sound better, but still... i feel that way. It you can feel a song as if you wrote it, then go for it, you may be better than the original.

But back to the subject, JB does an AMAZING job with singing Year 3000 and Thats what i go to school for, but i do feel Busted did a better job in both, again my opinion.

P.S: I feel that writers should get way more than credit that they do. (The song writers who dont perform them.)

i love how you guys are criticizing the jonas brothers lyrics for year 3000 when james is the one that REWROTE it so that Disney would play it...and they only sang 2 of busteds songs and that was with busteds approval so obviously they must have talent for a band like busted to allow then to play their songs...and im getting so tired of the jonas vs busted thing they are both great bands and performers they dont deserve to be compared to eachother and busted is over so why does it even matter?

This is interesting - I didn't realize that it was James who rewrote the lyrics. Not that this is all that important to me (again, what difference does it make who wrote the song? why is this even an issue?), but could you cite your source, provide a link to where it says that James wrote the lyric?

But for what it's worth, changing ""your great-great-great-granddaughter is pretty fine" to "your great-great-great-grandaughter is DOING fine" makes the song worse; not horribly worse - it's only one line - but it is a bad change. Why aren't you allowed to tell someone that his great-great-great-granddaughter is attractive? Why is "attractiveness" thrown out of the song? And I think there is an interesting issue; was it Disney who insisted on the change? This takes being squeaky clean to a pathological extreme, as if being sexy and attractive were a dangerous, bad thing. And if it wasn't Disney, was it one of the Jonases? What was the reason for the change? If it was James, what was he thinking? Is there any info on this? I'm speculating above on possible motives for the change, but has anyone involved actually given a reason?
