The Long And Tepid Road

So, after my praising her last week, Brooke White does a disconnected, pale version of "Here Comes The Sun." Very disappointing.
Carly Smithson gives some smoke to "Blackbird." She just doesn't have the voice for it, but the attempt was interesting.
Chikezie is nice but forgettable for the first half of "I've Just Seen A Face," then he turns it into a country two-step and gives it energy. Interesting again, throwing another changeup, but his arrangements don't overcome the ordinariness of his singing.
Amanda Overmyer mauls "Back In The USSR," which isn't totally inappropriate for the song, but, as Simon pointed out, week in and week out it gets dull.
David "Pretty Voice" Archuleta sings "The Long And Winding Road"; was barely passable, didn't rise above the accompaniment, didn't even sound all that pretty. Damn. What's going wrong, where's his beauty? (But the judges loved it.)
Jason Castro with his thin, weak voice gives an easy feeling to "Michelle", sounded a lot more at home than either David or Brooke did. Still doesn't make the guy all that good.
David Cook does a competent hard-bleating version of "Day Tripper." I don't like the style, but I appreciated the competence. I guess. I hope this guy doesn't make the finals.
Didn't listen to any of the others.
Summary opinion: Meh.
