Top Singles 2008

This would be my P&J/Idolator singles list for 2008 if the vote were held today:

1. Gwen Stefani "Early Winter"
2. Robyn "Be Mine!"
3. Ashlee Simpson "Outta My Head"
4. Miranda Lambert "Gunpowder and Lead"

Since the track is actually three years old, I would actually only vote the Robyn in either dire (a really really really poor singles list this year) or amazing (the song charts in the Top 40 in America, getting a lot of airplay, etc.) circumstances.

I'm only voting singles, even though Idolator allows you to vote for tracks. What other songs would you consider eligible for this year? I'd definitely vote "See You Again" except I already voted it last year. It got its first bits of Top 40 play in October, got enough downloads and play for Billboard to start tracking it in late November, entered the Hot 100 in late December, is only peaking now.

I would vote for "Love Song" by Sara Bareilles, though I take it that's probably not your type of song. "Don't Stop the Music"? "Pocketful of Sunshine" by TashBed?

Some of these are December '07 releases in UK, some are Jan or Feb. Two are current US hits. The GA isn't a single but made the UK Top 75 the other week on downloads, so counts.

I'd probably count a lot of those as 2007 for when they came out in America, which doesn't necessarily mean "release date" of course ("You" had been around for months in 2006 but it made my 2007 list because most of its top 40 run was in early '07). If/when "Turn The Lights Off" is a single, it's likely to make the list.

As long as 'Turn The Lights Off' is on the Cassie album it's almost sure to be one of my top 3 tracks of the year.

I even have a decent - ie all at least 7/10 - top 10 albums! Ridiculous.
