Song of the week is Lim Chang Jung's "Open The Door," a seemingly square, florid, impassioned trot that goes hilariously LMFAO in the chorus. The song's actual history runs opposite: was originally, last year, a forgettable would-be int'l-style dance track that I'd heard but forgotten by the Wonder Boyz (incl. LMFAO squiggles but w/out the zest we get when we Open The Door). So what's new this time are the trot beats, which with the hamming bring the song to immediate life. The squiggly LMFAO parade-streamer synths are the topper that they couldn't manage to be in the first version.

"Open The Door," by the way, makes this my third straight K-pop post to feature a Shinsadong Tiger track. He seemed to be having an off-year until all of a sudden he's not.

I'm late on it, but I highly recommend GI's "Gi," extending GI's tradition of ridiculous song titles. (Very first single was called "Beatles" despite having neither lyrics nor sound that refer to our lovable moptops (other than, I suppose, by having a beat). Band's name stands for Global Icon, and the Beatles are a global icon, if that's a connection.)

Also noted, Tren-D's "Candy Boy," in an unabashed Italodisco style. I especially like the instrumental B-side:

(I've included the Austral-Romanian tag because, while "Open The Door" isn't quite on the continuum that I've imagined, it's a second-cousin to the style.)

The brassy symth in Candy Boy reminds me of Japanese/made for Japan Eurobeat, only not as fast or frenetic. Of course, this shouldn't be surprising since Eurobeat is an offshoot of Italodisco anyway.

If you're not careful, you can disappear down a rabbit hole of forgotten idols and old dance crazes. :)

Just realised that there are Eurobeat synth riffs and parapara-ish arm waves in Sales King by comedy-pop-rock-trot-techno group Norazo.

Core Contents Media urges news outlets to stop reporting on Ahreum's condition
After a spate of news articles that speculated on former T-ara member Ahreum's health condition after her strange social media posts, Core Contents Media stepped forward to urge the media to stop reporting on the issue.

The reports focused on Ahreum's sometimes erratic posts on her Instagram after her departure from the group last July.

Core Contents Media asked news outlets to stop writing articles about Ahreum's condition. "In regards to Ahreum, we emphatically request that outlets stop reporting without proper verification," they said. "Please think of the young girl who is only 20 years old and we ask that the media halt any further articles in order to ease her life."

Meanwhile, Ahreum left T-ara earlier this year to focus on a solo debut, although Core Contents Media has yet to release any news on her comeback.

Back in July there were rumours that she had been possessed by a spirit..

This omona post talks a bit about what Areum has been posting. For K-netizen opinion see Netizen Buzz here and here. Apparently she's now saying that she was just acting. There's also a thread on reddit.

But this is probably old news now because allkpop have published old nude photos of Ailee and it's being alleged that an allkpop executive who is Ailee's ex leaked the photos (they've been circulating for a while). Ailee's label have released a statement claiming that she had been tricked into taking the photos as part of a modelling recruitment scam. They do, however, say that her ex-boyfriend saw the photos and that he works for allkpop. Meanwhile Dispatch have published a transcript of a phone call with someone offering them the photos, which they turned down. The caller says that he is her ex and got the photos directly from her.

According to Netizen Buzz, Areum has posted another strange message, which appears to blame Kim Kwang Soo and the "unnis" in T-ara:
"The people I hate the most right now are the CEO, unnis and the journalists! If only you gave me your pretty heart, but not even that... I don't care for things like that but don't regret it. (TN: The rest of this is still difficult to read/string together with grammar errors) The human heart responds truthfully but I can embrace even the people who write hateful comments. It's not good for all of you, stuff like that... Why do you make the people who love me receive hate."
