Well, given that Big Bang — our heroes Mr. T.O.P. and Mr. Dragon in particular — have been declared immature yet they are good at projecting themselves, it follows that Teen Top, not being as good at projecting, must be more mature. (Well, there's a logical fallacy there, and correlation doesn't mean causation. Not to mention the lyrics and video for "No More Perfume." But those are probably not the fault of the singers.)

I wonder if that's true. The main thing I know about Teen Top, besides the fact that someone decided to troll-market them as underage noona-baiting philandering playboy jerks, is that they are huge Big Bang fanboys.

Not that one follows from the other, although you can learn quite a bit about psychology by following Big Bang, who - being stuck as themselves and being stuck at a company that's half Korean-Korean and half Korean-American (i.e. not wholly in one world or the other) - are quite self-aware.

Well, no, I was just funning. I know nothing about Teen Top's maturity (except I at least question the character of people who would be willing to sing "No More Perfume On You," not that that's an aesthetic criticism of what's a pretty good song). Don't know anything about Big Bang's maturity either other than what you tell me, since I'm not yet following them as personalities in the way that you are.

I actually prefer 2NE1's "Last Farewell." Better singers. (Same performance I linked on the "Volume Up" thread.)

Have you seen this performance (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RypA45TRL8k) of Last Farewell? I'm not trying to change your opinion since I also love 2NE1 more than Big Bang (as singers too), but it's from 2011, so it's more recent even if it's mostly lip-synced. Though nothing will change the fact that Last Farewell is a boyband song, with boys singing in unison in a high register - of course it has to be high so the fangirls can scream along - which will always sound weird, I guess (going back to what you said earlier about girl voices working better for pop music).

Wait, I don't think overall, throughout history, girls and women's voices work better for pop music than male voices. Even restricting ourselves to vocal quartets and quintets and up (as opposed to solo singers, solitary rappers, or bands w/ lead singers such as the Stones, Stooges, and Dolls), the Orioles and Drifters and Impressions and Wailers and Miracles and Four Seasons and Jackson 5 and Spinners and *NSync and the Backstreet Boys etc. hold up to their female contemporaries. It's only regarding performers in the last decade that the tilt in my taste has become more and more female. And Big Bang certainly has the potential to flout this preference, for example tracks such as "Tonight."

"Boyband" is a narrower category than "male vocal group," but in April we had a thread you might enjoy on boybands.

Anyway, thanks for the link. Need to watch many more of their performances.

Probably the best overall concert for Big Bang vocals and presence, by the way, is the 2011 YG Family Concert. I even like that version of Cafe (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a0OR6-hxj5g), which can really fall flat when the falsetto isn't working. Every performance in that concert is great.
