"All righty. This song is called 'Love Me For Me.' It's on my album Autobiography, in stores. I wrote it actually after I broke up with my ex-boyfriend - he broke up with me. And it's about never changing yourself for a guy." So once again she uses a song intro to misrepresent the song (just as she almost misrepresented the breakup). Good performance.

Edd Hurt was over visiting today (is staying with a friend of his up in Lyons), and at one point when I was playing "Shadow" - I think it was during the phase-shifted (or whatever) Dear Prudential arpeggios while Ashlee's going "Oh I love you now, 'cause now I realize/That it's safe outside to come alive in my identity" - he said, "That's very White Album." So now I'm noticing other Beatlesque touches in the song: Ashlee's melisma "on every touch felt cold to me-e-e-ee" reminding me of Lennon, and the string bits at the end sounding a lot like where the Beatles are out at the strange party during the codas of their singles c. 1967. The violins seem to be going "How does it feel to be one of the beautiful people?" (which was about a year and a half pre-White Album, fortunately).

The White Album is actually one of my least favorite Beatles records, but "Dear Prudence" is one of its better moments.

Damn, that line in the post title is SO GREAT. It's the one that always whizzes past when I listen to the album, but it hits me like a truck in that live performance. Never stops being wonderful. (Usually hear it as "just wait it gets my goad, er...")

Good double meaning for "if you think you got me down": if you think you've got me pegged/if you think you're dominating or depressing me. She (they) probably intended the former - the basic Ashlee theme of "you think you know me?" - but I like the latter hanging around in the background as an additional possibility.
