An excellent electropop track from Heidi Montag, whom I hadn't heard of until half an hour ago, was leaked on Ryan Seacrest and sent out as a promo single, earning this rebuke from the artist:

"I JUST WANTED EVERYBODY TO KNOW THAT THE RANDOM TRACK THAT WAS AIRED ON THE RYAN SEACREST SHOW THIS MORNING WAS LEAKED BY WB RECORDS WITHOUT MY PERMISSION.

THIS RANDOM TRACK WAS MYSELF AND SPENCER JUST PLAYING AROUND IN THE STUDIO AND WAS NEVER TO BE INCLUDED ON MY UPCOMING LP, OR EVEN DROPPED AS A SINGLE!!!

STAY TUNED FOR MY FIRST UPCOMING SINGLE, AND LP LATER THIS YEAR."

The track samples Yaz, reminds me of Samantha Fox.

So (a) that track is terrible and (b) if you like Heidi Montag, we may never speak again (which is to say, you're really missing out on a teenpop-culture if you don't know who she is).

I gather that she potentially has Paris-size cultural resonance - the guy who alerted me to the track was distressed that he actually likes it - and that she is to cuddly young womanhood as Karl Rove is to cuddly unyoung nonwomanhood. (Her vocals seem thoroughly anonymous however, which makes this a fine disco track but perhaps makes its resonance unresounding.)

I have spent literally days trying to decide whether to agree or disagree with "she potentially has Paris-size cultural resonance." I think I've landed on disagree, if only because there's a certain grace to the way Paris gained and maintained fame--the seams never show. Heidi is all seams.

(I'm not sure how much her vocals are her vocals--she's buried under background singers in the chorus, and processed beyond recognition on the verses.)
