Another Year In America December 31, 2009
Dec. 31st, 2009 06:41 amMiley's "Party In The USA" jumps back into the top ten and Justin Bieber's "One Time" jumps back into the Top 40, possibly for some current-events reasons I'm not up on. And while
poptimists ignored the UK charts this week (which was all re-entries anyway), Another Year In America keeps on shovelin'.
Orianthi "According To You": Aussie guitarist babe playing by-the-numbers tuneful pop-rock has to choose between the guy who finds her stupid and useless and the guy who finds her funny and irresistible, and she unaccountably is leaning towards the latter, the guy who likes her. Young people these days! Don't they know that THIS ISN'T HOW IT WORKS? [Throws up hands, walks off muttering.] Only gets a BORDERLINE TICK, 'cause guitar onslaught in chorus neutralizes the tune's impact.
Selena Gomez & The Scene "Naturally": Teen tunepop that rolls along gently rather than killing us with the usual guitar overkill. I never got around to her this year (after last year's mediocre soundtrack stuff), but this is sweet, feels very 2001.* TICK.
*Is written by Antonina Armato and Tim James, notable for "See You Again" and "Potential Breakup Song" and "Bet On It" and "How Do I Feel (The Burrito Song)," among others.
