OK, the latest Rihanna discussion that people frustratingly put under flock regards the second line in verse two of "Fire Bomb." Candidates are:

"Like the way that I'm at a tragedy"
"Microwave and a metal tragedy"*
"I echo within a metal tragedy"

My heart says "microwave" but my mind says "I echo," though the issue is hardly settled, and a third-party candidate may well carry the day.

*Leads to discussion of late-evening college entertainment consisting of different objects experimentally placed within microwave oven (some reliably characterized as "it's beautiful and it's blue").

EDIT: "Microwaving a metal tragedy" seems to be the - excellent - consensus, now. Or perhaps "Microwaving the metal tragedy." See here, especially weasel_seeker's suggestion that we add a dash:

First time I heard Pere Ubu's "30 Seconds Over Tokyo" I heard "Intellectual dragon locked in time" (which is sort of what I am) rather than "In a metal dragon locked in time."

For some reason on headphones while walking home just now I heard "middle tragedy" (in the middle of a tragedy). I didn't skip back to relisten b/c it was cold.

What did you think of the "size 10" theories from Melissa and rtc?

I don't think anyone would say "size 10" if he or she meant "perfect 10," since the connotations are so different. As for the insult of "10," we don't know enough even to know it was an insult: maybe there was some women's apparel in Chris's apartment that obviously wasn't hers, maybe it's dress size, maybe it's shoe size, maybe he bought her a present in the wrong size....

"Metal" makes more sense than "middle" because she's in a car and what's burning in the next line isn't going to be "middle."

I hope it comes with a lyric sheet that presents a line that she couldn't possibly be saying, which (I believe) Ashlee does on occasion. I.e. prints the written lyrics but doesn't update them to any improvisation or tweaks done in the studio.

My guess is that sometimes it isn't the songwriters who provide the lyrics for lyric sheets but someone on staff, who either might be working from a printout or using ears. As I said, that's entirely a guess. It's also possible that some lyrics are only partially written down in the first place, the song sometimes being put together in the studio. Or maybe I'm being naive.
