Can't tell if I'm being sour or generous this week.
Colbie Caillat "Fallin' For You": Relaxed and weightless, would be a perfect confection if it had the remotest bit of character (imagine it sung by Taylor Swift); or maybe its lack of character is its character. Could be a grower. BORDERLINE TICK.
Darius Rucker "Alright": Panders to the audience's mediocrity by plumping for the unimaginative, the easy basics, which the wooden singer manages to make sound difficult anyway. NO TICK.
Cobra Starship f. Leighton Meester "Good Girls Go Bad": Dance pop that's catchy enough to survive its clogged-up rock arrangement and its rote, stupid sex 'n' danger lyrics. I hate this, but it's a BORDERLINE TICK.
Green Day "21 Guns": Strangely, Billie Joe goes for a leaf-in-the-air effect that would make more sense coming from Colbie. Good tune, extraneous guitars, platitudinous lyrics. I respect the falsetto. BORDERLINE TICK.
