Don't know when [livejournal.com profile] poptimists is going to do its month in pop thing for April and May, but I thought I'd get a jump on it by compiling my list now.

Stuff that's new to me and relatively new to the world, as well:
The Lonely Island "I'm On A Boat" (is several months old, but I took a while to realize how good it is)
Das Racist "Combination Pizza Hut And Taco Bell (Wallpaper remix)"
Röyksopp f. Robyn "The Girl And The Robot"
Hilary Duff "Any Other Day"
Adam Lambert "Mad World"
Champion DJ "Baako" (don't know what year it's from)
Jim Jones "Na Na Nana Na Na"
Sarah Buxton "Space" (like "I'm On A Boat," "Space" is a few months old but took a while to hit me)
3OH!3 "Don't Trust Me"
Nikki Awesome "You Say (It Was Supposed To Be)"
Sean Kingston "Fire Burning"
K'naan f. Chubb Rock "ABC's"
Sarah Borges And The Broken Singles "Do It For Free"
Marie Serneholt "Disconnect Me"
Alexander Rybak "Fairytale"
Tommy Sparks "She's Got Me Dancing"
Veronica Maggio "Stopp"
Rascal Flatts "Summer Nights"
Electrik Red "Electrik City"

Stuff that's old to some of the world but new to me:
Bill Withers "Who Is He And What Is He To You?"
Michael Jackson "Ain't No Sunshine"
Lexxus "Let Those Monkeys Out"
Lexxus "Ring Me Cellie"
Lexxus "Yuh Nah"
Strings "Yeh Hai Meri Kahani"

Strangely, or maybe not so strangely, I'm finding that my comfy "7" Jukebox picks are holding up best in the long-term. Of ones I rated, that includes Rybak, Tommy Sparks, and Veronica Maggio, and stuff I didn't rate includes Little Boots's "New in Town."

Somewhat disappointing that "Electrik City" isn't on How to Be a Lady Vol. 1, but the album overall is both immediately good AND a grower (could be great), which suggests (for now) a Dream/ER one-two punch somewhere in my top five for the year. I would say it might fill your Danity vacuum but it doesn't really have the harmonies -- it does have the sense of business, but a lot of the time the arrangements are doing the heavy lifting. (I do like that they have a more androgynous vocal presence as the frontwoman, though, kind of the lady version of The-Dream.)

Oh wow, having just Youtubed the actual video for it I had no idea (but should have guessed) that "Electrik City" is like three years old! No idea where I heard it first, probably on an odds-n-sods version of their album I downloaded a couple months ago.

It's kinda time to do my quarterly best songs of 2009 as well, but I'll bung up the What Did You Hear In June poll first.
