Two songs about the s3Xor. In the first, the narrator hopes for a lot, doesn't discuss the possibility of not getting it, but that possibility is the premise of the song. In the second, the singer wants more but wonders if she's right to expect it, though obviously she is.

Date: 2009-04-01 08:56 pm (UTC)The funny thing about Lily Allen, as far as I can tell, is that people react to her as to a person they dislike in real life: they don't just interpret her words in an uncharitable light, they don't want to listen to what she's saying at all. (It's a song about thinking you've found the perfect mate, then picking up on something not right, then wondering if you're being shallow, then realizing no it actually is a dealbreaker because it's a sign of deeper personality flaws - i.e. in dating you have to go with your gut! There's a narrative progression there but listeners seem to jump off the train halfway because "ew she's talking about the wet spot" thus falling prey to the same knee-jerk reaction they assume Lily is inciting. IDK I'm always baffled that peeps are totally taken in by Lily's front when for me the fact that she fronts is just a secondary point of interest.)
