Says Paul Krugman:

And these new priorities are laid out in a document whose clarity and plausibility seem almost incredible to those of us who grew accustomed to reading Bush-era budgets, which insulted our intelligence on every page. This is budgeting we can believe in.

It's kind of amazing to go into a newsstand today: the front page of at least three of the major papers I looked at (NYT, WSJ, Globe and Mail) strike a real tone of a major transformational shift in the air (one piece on the front of the Times even notes that the budget "sweeps away Reagan ideas"). Sure, you could say this angle has been pursued ad nauseum ever since Obama won, but it felt to me anyway a bit different today: like... it's finally starting to happen, "change" is taking root. (Even Krugan's tone feels different to me, not that I've read him religiously on this stuff.) I kind of can't wait to get home tonight to watch them pull their hair out on CNBC, at least those who still have hair.

I probably shouldn't post this given that I haven't fully read it yet (and certainly don't "endorse" or for that matter un-endorse it...), but it's a harsh indictment of the budget from the far left (the folks at Counterpunch, who I rarely trust for a variety of reasons but am always pretty interested in what they have to say anyway). They mention the Times approval of it as well:

I meant "link" instead of "post," obviously.
