My memory from age 12 turns out to have been extraordinarily accurate*: the actual first jazz album on my record shelf was The Jazz Piano (1966) featuring (as I'd remembered) Duke Ellington, Earl "Fatha" Hines, Willie "The Lion" Smith, Mary Lou Williams, and (two I'd not remembered) Billy Taylor and Charles Bell. Still have no idea how it came to our house.



*As opposed to my memory from, say, yesterday.
