Slowly catching up after the holiday. Glee Cast "Forget You" comes within two spots of pulling off a first, of getting into the top ten before the original does. Other than that, little else is new, which is strange for this time of year.
Glee Cast ft. Gwyneth Paltrow "Forget You": Gwyneth can whip her thin voice around well enough and with pitch precision, so you don't spend your time thinking "I wish they'd get a real singer." She's not got a lot of character in the voice (I'd have been curious how Lea Michele and her attention-seeking emoting would work here) but the song is unstoppable. The Glee regulars stick effectively to backup rhythm and spice, as the arrangement stays with the original. Is okay. TICK.
Glee Cast ft. Gwyneth Paltrow "Singing In The Rain"/"Umbrella": Dumb idea, badly executed. Gwyneth is fine but forgettable in comparison to another twenty or thirty versions of "Umbrella," esp. Rihanna's; Matthew Morison gallops in uncomfortably with "Singing In The Rain" and gets in the way. The whole thing stumbles. NO TICK.
