I don't think the tabs are saying it's all commodity nonsense. They are reporting a human story, it's just one that they make up, trying to fit the celebs into a very few stereotypes: the anorexic (Nicole, Kelly), the out-of-control partier (Lindsay), the good mother (Angelina), the bad mother (Britney), the good addict (Keith Urban), the bad addict (all the others), the jealous wife/husband/bf/girlfriend, the nut case (Tom Cruise), his victim (Katie Holmes), etc. etc. etc. Amazing what they tried to do with Ashlee: "Friends Worry That Ashlee Is Addicted To Plastic Surgery!" They had to make her addicted to something! But they seem to have given up on her for the nonce as not being celeb tabloid material, to her relief I'm sure.

Lindsay, with no current product out, is still prime celeb fodder for fitting into so many categories.
