Some young people told me about a new hip-hop r&b station in Denver, 95.7 the Party, so I tuned in and they were playing... Taylor Swift! (The dance remix of "You Belong With Me," which is kind of a mess, but it made perfect sense in this context, among Pitbull, New Boyz, The-Dream, Fabolous.)

Not sure if this is a "party" station, but here's Metal Mike Saunder, via email, today (I'm not even gonna try to italicize it):

---------------

turn on this station (daytime or other) while i tell you a story about a man named jed(jason)

last tuesday dinnertime/wed morning we had substantial street/freeway driving time (in a Mercury Lincoln Grand Marquis no less -- any idiot band can schlep gear around in a van, but only new-economy visionaries can bum everything except their snare drum/cymbals and guitar cases, and tool around town to town in a luxury leather-padded-seated 4 door)

an entire hour both before and after the 5th (last) gig last tuesday (and me the next 10am-1pm since i dropped off the losers who had to fly out 3 hrs before me) in BALTIMORE of all towns. i hit on Baltimore WMMX Mix 106.5 real quick -- the only dial-flipping (every time a Katy Perry or Pink track came on that i hate = all of them since time began!) alternative was baltimore WLIF 101.9 (the long-standing baltimore Hot AC that ratings books show to be only even with WMMX in recent years) (101.9 was a lame NON-jock 80's-oldies-heavy Hot AC that tricked you with "What A Feelin'"/Irene Cara and then proceeded to barf out the worst 80's shit you ever tried to forget, inbetween more current 90's/00's "hit hot AC"). so i wound up hearing hours total of WMMX not knowing what format it was

i loved this station's sound/programming and thought the 3 sets of jocks during the 14 hours of 5am-7pm "real time" slots were hi-energy chirpy-upbeat hella fun. the 7pm-5am "non-jock" programming (which also had a great sound, ie background noises/beats everywhere) tricked me into thinking it was a dance-lite station (club remix of mariah-twerp's "Obsessed," the rock/dance mix of You Belong With Me, and a couple other remixes that were new to me (i brain farted and also not only couldn't identify Love Knocked Me Out w/Ni-Yo, but thought it was a dance-format club hit! kanye who? is he some guy who's gonna open on the LadyGaga arena bill next month?).

it/WMMX of course was a Hot Adult AC MIX format, Baltimore WMMX 106.5

back home i hacked Google a little, and spotchecked these others (of like-kind format) but they all were lame -- Mix 107.3 Washington DC, WFLC Miami, WTMX Skokie ILL, WBMX Boston, KFMB San Diego, KBIG LA, KRSX Portland.

WMMX's core playlist isn't anything out of the ordinary (below). maybe they just have great upbeat background-sounds/commercials programming by someone who super knows what they're doing?

jock Jason of Jason&Jenn was cribbing all the famous Gene Sculatti air mannerisms. one minute he'd be all "yeah, yeah!" and then he'd be "increDible!" and then back to "yeah, yeah!"

today i had WMMX on at the home computer, and they were commenting on the "rock and roll Hall of Fame nominations for ABBA and KISS" totally all like, yeah put 'em in already!
