Niche markets can be gated communities or they can be fruitful tendencies. Rock 'n' roll was once a niche market. As far as I can tell, few P&J voters are voting only one market anyway. So it's damned if you do and damned if you don't. If you're voting niche you're gated and if you're voting beyond the niche you're atomized. But as I say below, engaging with one another doesn't mean liking the same things. Would seem to have more to do with understanding one another's different ideas and experiences.
